Wandering through the forest,
With no end in sight.
Stumbling upon his misty lair,
Clouds of smoke woven into the night.
His home is vast with shrubbery.
His walls are a forest green.
His body Firmly nestled atop a single leaf.
As he Slowly sheds his skin.
Rings of smoke engulf him,
He blows them in my face.
A hint of arrogance consumes his speech,
His words seem out of place.
His eyes are fixed upon me,
As I look back at him in surprise
I cannot help but wonder
What lies beneath those beady eyes.
Who are you? Asks the caterpillar
Do you know of where you are?
I’m Alice, I say to him
As he is smoking his cigar.
Who are you! He asks again.
Seemingly unimpressed with my reply
I’m Alice, I firmly say to him,
You must not hear me because you’re high.
I’m lost in this forest you call wonderland,
Can you help set me free?
Please help me leave this place,
I ask him fervently.
A freshly packed hookah in one hand
A rolled joint firmly pressed against his mouth.
Do you know where you are going? He asks,
East, West, North or South?
If you do not know where you are going,
He says with a whimsical flare.
If you have no direction,
Then Any road will get you there.
Who are you really, Alice?
I already know your name.
Intensely glaring into my soul,
He asks me once again.
His long fuzzy torso and small legs,
Are Twitching atop his leafy bed.
This is where you belong, he says
I may be high, but you’re quite Mad.
I’ll let you in on a little secret, though
We’re all little mad in here
But Through chaos you’ll find order
Your transformation is quite near.
A metamorphosis is underway.
His transformation is now complete.
Emerging a beautiful butterfly from his cocoon,
Uttering his final words without defeat.
Purge your former self, he says
Shed your mess and Accept the insanity.
Lose yourself In a wonderland of madness,
And Become your new reality.
For even in a place like wonderland,
A world filled with never ending nonsense,
Nothing is what it is,
Because everything is what it isn’t.
